Garage to Photography Studio Conversion – Queens, NY

Vision Art Aluminium proudly completed this unique custom bi-fold door installation in Queens, New York, transforming an ordinary garage into a professional photography studio designed for both personal use and commercial rental.

When Luis and Allison, two professional photographers, visited our showroom, they shared their vision of creating a modern studio that would provide abundant natural light while also giving them complete control over privacy and lighting conditions during photo shoots. After discussing their needs, our team designed a custom 13-foot wide by 8-foot high thermally broken aluminum bi-fold door tailored specifically for their creative workspace.

To meet the unique requirements of a photography studio, we incorporated integrated jalousie blinds sealed between the insulated glass panels. Unlike traditional curtains or exterior shades, the built-in blinds allow the homeowners to adjust sunlight and privacy instantly while keeping the glass clean, maintenance-free, and visually elegant. This feature gives photographers the flexibility to control lighting conditions throughout the day without compromising the modern appearance of the studio.

The bi-fold door was manufactured using thermally broken aluminum framing combined with double-pane tempered Low-E insulated glass, delivering outstanding thermal performance, year-round comfort, and excellent energy efficiency. Even with its large opening, the system operates effortlessly thanks to premium European hardware engineered for smooth and reliable performance.

To make the space even more enjoyable, we also installed a retractable bug screen. When the bi-fold door is fully opened, the screen keeps mosquitoes and other insects outside while allowing fresh air to circulate freely throughout the studio—an ideal feature during spring and summer photo sessions.

Because this was a fully customized system, the design, engineering, and manufacturing process took approximately two months, while the professional installation was completed in just one day.

One of the most rewarding parts of this project was what happened after the installation. Luis and Allison were so pleased with the finished result that they later photographed and filmed Vision Art Aluminium’s products and completed projects. What started as a client relationship eventually grew into a genuine friendship, making this project especially meaningful to our team.
