Project Overview
Vision Art Aluminium completed this custom 26' × 7' aluminum bi-fold door installation in Paramus, New Jersey, featuring an eight-panel folding system, thermally broken aluminum framing, insulated Low-E glazing, premium hardware, and a 15-foot panoramic picture window.
This custom bi-fold door installation in Paramus, New Jersey, was designed to replace a conventional exterior wall with an expansive architectural glass opening that brings more natural light into the home and creates a stronger connection between the interior living area and backyard.
Vision Art Aluminium designed, fabricated, and professionally installed an approximately 26′ × 7′ eight-panel aluminum bi-fold door system, transforming the existing opening into a dramatic indoor-outdoor architectural feature. A large 15-foot panoramic picture window was also incorporated into the project, extending the glazed composition and creating uninterrupted backyard views across the elevation.
The homeowners wanted a system that would feel visually minimal when closed and dramatically open when needed. The result reflects our core design philosophy:
More Glass. Less Frame.
Custom 26-Foot Aluminum Bi-Fold Door System
The defining element of this Paramus project is the scale of the opening.
At approximately 26 feet wide and 7 feet high, the bi-fold system required precise field measurements, project-specific fabrication, carefully coordinated hardware, and accurate installation.
The system consists of eight large folding glass panels designed to move and stack toward the side of the opening. When closed, the panels create an expansive glazed wall that fills the interior with natural daylight. When opened, they create a broad transition between the home and outdoor living area.
This configuration allows the homeowners to enjoy panoramic views while preserving the flexibility to open a significant portion of the exterior wall for entertaining, family gatherings, and everyday indoor-outdoor living.
Thermally Broken Aluminum Framing
The custom bi-fold door was fabricated using thermally broken aluminum framing, allowing the system to combine slim architectural sightlines with improved thermal performance compared with conventional non-thermal aluminum profiles.
A thermal barrier separates the interior and exterior portions of the aluminum frame, helping reduce direct heat transfer through the profiles.
The result is a system that maintains the strength and clean proportions of architectural aluminum while supporting the performance requirements of a large residential exterior opening.
Double-Pane Tempered Low-E Insulated Glass
The folding panels incorporate double-pane tempered Low-E insulated glazing.
This glass configuration helps manage heat transfer while allowing large areas of transparent glazing to remain central to the design. Tempered safety glass is well suited to oversized operable door panels, while Low-E coatings help support thermal performance throughout changing seasonal conditions.
The combination of insulated glazing and thermally broken aluminum framing allows the system to maximize glass area without treating architectural appearance and building performance as separate priorities.
Slim Frames & Panoramic Views
One of the most important design objectives was minimizing visible aluminum.
By using large glazed panels and carefully proportioned aluminum profiles, the completed system creates broad sightlines across the backyard while allowing natural daylight to become a dominant feature of the interior.
The large 15-foot picture window reinforces this approach by extending the panoramic glazing beyond the folding-door opening.
Together, the fixed and operable glass systems create a unified architectural elevation rather than a collection of individual doors and windows.
Premium Folding Hardware
An oversized eight-panel bi-fold system depends heavily on its operating hardware.
The rollers, hinges, guides, locking components, and frame geometry must work together to support the weight and movement of the large glazed panels.
Premium European-engineered hardware was incorporated into the system to provide controlled, smooth operation across the complete opening.
During installation, the panels and frames were carefully aligned and adjusted to maintain consistent movement, closing, and locking performance.
Custom Designed for the Existing Home
Vision Art Aluminium does not approach oversized architectural openings as standard-size replacement-door projects.
This custom bi-fold door installation was developed around the actual dimensions, architecture, structural conditions, and intended use of the Paramus residence.
The project involved:
- Detailed field measurements
- Custom eight-panel bi-fold configuration
- Approximately 26′ × 7′ architectural opening
- Thermally broken aluminum fabrication
- Double-pane tempered Low-E insulated glass
- Premium folding hardware
- 15-foot panoramic picture-window integration
- Architectural powder-coated finish
- Professional installation and alignment
- Final hardware adjustment and operational testing
Coordinating the door system, glazing, hardware, and surrounding architecture as one complete package helped create a clean and consistent finished appearance.
A Stronger Indoor-Outdoor Connection
The completed Paramus bi-fold door system changes the way the home interacts with the backyard.
When closed, the large glazed panels provide natural light and expansive exterior views. When opened, the eight-panel system creates a wide transition that allows the interior and outdoor living areas to function more naturally together.
Rather than simply replacing an exterior door, the project transformed a substantial portion of the wall into an operable architectural glass opening.
The finished system combines large-scale glazing, thermal aluminum construction, premium hardware, and minimal sightlines in a way that feels integrated with the contemporary character of the home.
